There are three options you may choose from to receive the latest version of theTypeBook.
Ñ The freeware version is distributed via CompuServe and America Online directly by me. It also filters down through many other local BBS's from there but this process takes time. The best way to obtain the freeware version of theTypeBook is to send the following:
1) A formatted 800K (2DD) diskette.
2) A postage-paid, self-addressed disk mailer for the return trip.
(Outside the US the postage rate is rarely above $1.75 US)
I will place a copy of the latest version on this disk and use the
mailer to return it to you. I cannot accept responibility for
incomplete address information, materials damaged during transit,
or insufficient postage.
Ñ Customized versions are available in which the page footer is configured to your specifications. The fee for a customized version is $45 (US). Both artwork and copy are used. You should provide some indication to the positioning of the elements (logo on the left, right, etc.). If no layout is indicated I will use the current layout or my own judgement.
When specifying artwork you must supply it on a 3.5" diskette. Artwork should be in one of the following formats:
Freehand 3.x (but not EPS)
Illustrator 3.x
PICT
MacPaint
You should select a format that prints well on the printer you are using. If you supply an Illustrator or Freehand file I create other supplimental resources to satisfy just about any printing situation. PICT files offer the greatest compatibility but it would seem difficult to create usable bezier-type PICTs. Bitmap PICTs are easy and reliable but are pretty much restricted to the resolution at which they are created.
When you create the Illustrator or Freehand it is recommend that you do not use "Placed Images". More often than not this creates a "single" eps file 3 or 4 times larger than theTypeBook application itself. Conversely, complex Illustrator graphics of up to 200K work very well. You should be aware that the time it takes to print the supplied artwork will, naturally, be tacked on to the time it normally takes to produce a page. By supplying a postscript version you will have the option of switching to the bitmap equivalent if speed outweights quality (though a very minor difference in quality).
Users who do not have Illustrator or Freehand may still supply an eps file, but I will probably not have any flexibility to create additional resources or make adjustments. The high resolution bitmaps provide pleasing results and are easy to create. They are simply Mac Paint versions at 400% final size for 300 dpi, and 500% final size for 360 dpi. 72 dpi is 100% final size.
Color printing is not directly supported. If you supply a Illustrator or Freehand file that uses color these will print in color on a color printer and grey scale on a black and white printer. If you what equivalent color PICT resources you must supply them at the necessary sizes in a copy of your Scrapbook File.
Fonts used in either the Illustrator or Freehand file can greatly affect the output times. Where possible it is best to convert as much as possible to outlines. For small copy (text) this is often not desirable when printing to a laserwriter. For high resolution there is no difference, but the outlines on the laserwriter generally look much bolder than the original. It may be necessary to supply the required font along with the artwork.
Copy may be typewritten or optionally included on the disk with the artwork. It is also limited by the space available. Generally, 3 - 4 lines depending on the typesize specified. Remember the total vertical space is 31 pts including descenders.
Ñ A simple Registered version is available for $22.50 (US). With this option, theTypeBook logo remains in the page footer. The name and address text information is updated to reflect the registered user (or thier specified copy). Simply include a note on how the address info in the page footer should read along with your check or money order. It is not necessary to supply a disk for the simple registration version.
It is not necessary to include text for the color sample paragraphs. This text can be changed at anytime through the "Color Sample Text" selection in the Edit menu of theTypeBook application.
Upgrades are free upon request, including changes to any of your information in the page footer. Registered owners of prior versions should include a copy of theTypeBook application they have. This will facilitate duplication of their existing layout.
